1. Open Shopify's install page for the connector, in a desktop browser. It installs from Claude, not the Shopify App Store.
2. Connect Claude to Shopify. You're sent to your Shopify admin.
3. Review the data access it asks for and approve it. Some access is read-only, and some can change your store.
4. Ask Claude for Shopify, such as "which store are you connected to?"

03What can the Shopify connector for Claude do?

• Create a store before you sign up, and save it to an account.
• Create and update products, variants, images and collections.
• Work with inventory, orders, customers, discounts and analytics.
• Source products from Shopify Collective.

It can't edit or publish your live theme, so it edits a copy that you publish yourself. It can't change your plan, payments, taxes or domains.

It works within the access you approve and your own user permissions. To reduce its access later, you have to uninstall it. There's no extra Shopify fee.

04Why is my Shopify Claude connector not working?

Check these first:

• Which store it's connected to. Ask it, and switch if needed.
• Write access. Without it, the connector reads data but can't change it. A higher level prompts you to approve.
• Your user permissions. Staff can't give it more than they have themselves.
• The task. Live theme edits and store settings aren't supported at all.
• Your device. Setup needs a desktop browser.

05How do I connect Shopify to Claude Code?

Install the AI Toolkit:

It gives Claude Code Shopify's docs and API schemas, validates GraphQL, Liquid and extensions, and runs store tasks through Shopify CLI.

06Will the Shopify connector show my products in Claude?

No. The owner connector works on your admin data. It doesn't put your products in front of shoppers.

Shoppers can find products in Claude through the Shop connector, if they add it. Shopify's Agentic Storefronts lists ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta as channels, and not Claude. Claude can also find your store on the open web through its search, so check your crawler access.

07How do I get my Shopify store in Claude's directory?

Build a connector for your store and submit it at claude.ai/directory/manage.

• A remote MCP server on your domain, using Shopify's catalog and customer MCP servers behind it.
• OAuth 2.0 for tools that touch a customer's account, chained to your store's customer login.
• A title and a readOnlyHint or destructiveHint on every tool. Shopify's own tools don't carry these, so your server adds them.
• A privacy policy, documentation page, support contact, icon and test account.

Anthropic scans each submission and lists it as Community by default. Full requirements.

Before you submit, anyone can test it by adding the server's address as a custom connector in Claude.
